  • Soil Health Workshop, URI—Attended by 29 individuals, including farmers, NRCS, state ag professionals, and regional ag extension employees.
  • 2007 Greenhouse Tomato Conference, Sturbridge, CT—Attended by approximately 160 individuals, primarily farmers and extension employees, from 5 states. 
  • New England Vegetable and Fruit Grower’s Conference—December 11-13, Manchester, NH—Over 1200 registered attendees.  Moderated two sessions—Lettuce & Greens, Post-Harvest Handling—and assisted with one—Minor Crops. 
Farmer Contacts:
  • Performed site visits and communicated with RI growers via e-mail, telephone, and office calls. 
Update on Funding for Position:
  • The grant under which I am working concludes at the end of June 2008.  RI growers, ag service providers, and government agencies are eager to see this become a permanent element of URI’s Cooperative Extension endeavors.  Future funding opportunities are being explored, including but not limited to multi-disciplinary grants and inter-organizational partnerships.  Letters of support for this position can be addressed to:

Upcoming Events:
  • Currently entertaining topics for a February or March grower meeting at URI.  Feel free to contribute.  Top two at the moment are cover crop management and biocontrol of pests.
